Retired judge leaves Camden but heart remains in city

The first things to be packed up in the sixth-floor chambers of now-retired Superior Court Judge M. Allan Vogelson were the cars, accurate scale models that had filled bookcases and tabletops.

There were 62 of them and it took Vogelson's former secretary Diana Paglia quite a time to pack each in its appropriate cardboard box for transfer to Vogelson's Cherry Hill home.

Next came the photos -- of Vogelson with political celebrities and a tiger cub -- and various plaques. Then were the postcards and bits of Camden memorabilia.

"Some of the stuff is going into storage where I'll look at boxes of the accumulation every week or so and probably eventually determine it's disposable," said Vogelson, who was cleaning out his office on Wednesday, his last day as a public employee.

Horses abound

Imagine a massive animal that stands almost seven feet tall and weighs nearly a ton. It could break your foot if it made a misstep.

Unless youve been living under a rock, youve heard of these animals. Maybe youve seen them in commercials (the Budweiser Clydesdales) or parades. But you may not realize their full capacity.

Draft horses are known for their strength, longevity and temperament. Riding them is nearly impossible because of their enormous size; therefore, they are primarily used for farm labor.

Anyone interested in buying one of these animals or merely catching a glimpse of them can find a variety at Boone County Fairgrounds, along with mules and ponies. They are a part of the Boone County Draft Horse & Mule Sale, which started Wednesday and continues at 9 a.m.

Online Antiques Mall TIAS.com Launches Affiliate Program

Website owners now have the opportunity to sell antiques and collectibles through a new affiliate program launched by TIAS.com, the Web's largest and oldest online antique and collectibles mall. For online content publishers who serve collectors of antiques and collectibles, the new TIAS affiliate program gives them the unique ability to include a search box with their content so that their readers can purchase the items mentioned on their Web site. As an example, a Web site that published stories about collectible pottery, vintage Barbies or antique furniture could include a search box with each story to allow the reader to actually see and buy the items mentioned. The publisher would then be paid a commission for all sales that result from that referral.

Web retail sites that specialize in selling antiques and collectibles can increase their available inventory by over 500,000 items.

Can Fayetteville downtown get hip?

Nancy Price wants to change that. She's the director of Fayetteville Mainstreet, an organization that markets downtown.

Its new Web site — www

.downtownfayetteville.org — lists available properties downtown. The site also outlines incentives the city offers for businesses interested in moving downtown, such as reduced impact fees.

Price would like a restaurant on the Square.

"Having food on the Square would bring more people and more energy downtown," she said.

Several years ago, the Famous Fish Co. expressed interest in opening a location downtown, but the restaurant went out of business before it could happen.

The storefront sits vacant on South Glynn Street, awaiting further renovation. It's one of several vacant buildings on the Square.
